Asheville-Biltmore Rotarians & Friends

Walk the Walk

to Serve Others

Saturday May 17, 2025
Noon- 4:40 PM
Bears Smokehouse BBQ
135 Coxe Ave, Asheville (Downtown South Slope)

We are excited to invite everyone to join in Asheville-Biltmore Rotary’s major Service Above Self event for 2025: Walking The Walk!

Rotarians and Friends will be walking 1- and/or 2- mile courses, increasing awareness and raising funds for some great organizations serving our community and the world. We hope to have enough walkers to cover 100 miles.

This event is directly tied to four primary objectives of our club:

  • Serve Others: We are supporting excellent organizations that take on the tough challenges in the world.

  • Educate and Increase Awareness: Helping all of us better understand challenges that people face and how we can help.

  • Increase Rotary Visibility: Asheville-Biltmore Rotary is a vital part of our local community. The Walk provides us an excellent opportunity to share the Rotary story of service.

  • Reinforce Friendships and Camaraderie: The Walk is a great opportunity to spend time together as Rotarians, friends, and families. Nothing says we cannot have a lot of fun while doing good!

Why Do This?

We are supporting efforts to:

  • Fight Dementia: Funds going equally to Asheville’s own MemoryCare and the Rotary Sponsored CART program, doing cutting edge research to defeat dementia.
  • Feed the Hungry: Supporting Manna Food Bank, which has experienced a surge in demand following Tropical Storm Helene.
  • Celebrate Our Veterans: Reminding all of the vital work being done by Veterans Restoration Quarters, which serves those who served our country.

Where Is This Happening?

This fun day of easy exercise, friendship, and supporting good causes is hosted by our good friends Bear BBQ Smokehouse, on Asheville’s South Slope, at 135 Coxe Avenue.

We are also joined in this effort by two great community organizations, the Asheville Brewers Alliance and Businesses of South Slope (BOSS).

The event is a walk through downtown and South Slope Asheville, with participants choosing a 1-mile or 2-mile course (or both!). We hope to add up to 100 miles collectively as a group. See the route map below.

1,2 mile routes Walk the Walk 2025

We start and end at Bears Smokehouse BBQ, 135 Coxe Ave. There is plenty of street parking in the area and several commercial lots along Coxe Avenue.

Walkers will check in, get a souvenir t-shirt and a map, and off you go. Upon return, check back in and get a free beer or beverage, courtesy of Bear Smokehouse BBQ.

When Are We Walking?

The walk is taking place during Asheville’s famous Beer Week, on Saturday May 17. Walks will take place between Noon and 4 PM, rain or shine, with all activities wrapping up at 5 PM.

We focus our efforts on fighting dementia and feeding the hungry, with one-third of the proceeds going to MemoryCare in Asheville, one-third going to support the CART ground-breaking dementia research program, and one-third going to Manna Food Bank.

100% of all donations will go to these fine causes. The Asheville-Biltmore Rotary Club is absorbing all costs.

We have a separate fund raising project underway for Veterans Restoration Quarters and are using this walk to celebrate their dedicated and vital service to those who served .
