Our Service Projects
The Rotary motto, Service Above Self, is alive and well with Asheville-Biltmore Rotarians.There are many opportunities throughout the year to volunteer in a wide variety of community service projects.
Among our local projects have been the following:
- Financial and volunteer labor support to Manna Food Bank
- Participation in the Rotarians Against Hunger program
- Meal preparation and service for Veterans Restoration Quarters
- Financial support and volunteer service for Transformation Village, a local shelter for women and children
- Volunteering for public feeding programs
- Provision of dictionaries and atlases for school children
- Provision of blankets for the homeless
- Bell ringers for charity fund raising
- Support to Habitat for Humanity (financial and volunteers)
- Providing protected bus shelters for underserved areas in Asheville
- Scholarships for local youth to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
- Supporting a local high school by funding Student of the Month and Teacher of the Month awards
- Established a foundation to assist in managing charitable resources
- Major contributions to CART (Rotary’s Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust)
- Major contributions to a local dementia care and support program
Among our international efforts have been the following:
- Fund raising for a community library in Mexico
- Purchase and delivery of solar lanterns to a Haitian village without electricity
- Sponsoring Rotary Exchange Students
- Working with KIVA to provide microloans to entrepreneurs in developing countries
- Contributions toward Global Grants for a water project in Ghana and medical equipment in Bolivia
